Last week the Council Planning Committee agreed to grant planning consent to National Grid to clear the land and demolish the gasholders. However, an application has been submitted by a resident to try and save the smaller gasholder which is a unique example (and ONLY SURVIVING EXAMPLE) of its kind.

Why is it important?

The gasholders have been a feature of Wood Green for over 100 years. Its removal will take away another piece of architectural history in Wood Green not to mention an important landmark for our local area.

We can help save it still if we write in to ENGLISH HERITAGE to support the application. You need to email Jeremy Hallatt - email jeremy.hallatt@english-heritage.org.uk and make reference to Hornsey Gasholder No 1, application ref number 79733112.
